WELCOME TO SOUTH COUNTY
VFW POST 10978 NIPOMO

Serving veterans, their families, and the community of south San Luis Obispo County, California

As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group. Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, Vietnam, the war on terrorism, or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

Memorial Day Event!

On Monday May 30th, VFW Post 10978 will be hosting a major event at the Black Lake golf course. The event is co-sponsored by the very popular local band, Unfinished Business, and the Black Lake golf course (Rossi Enterprises). Entry to the event is free, but tables are being sold for donations. All proceeds will go to Disabled Veterans of American, and the AmpSurf project. View details by clicking "Visit Event Site".

Nipomo 4th of July Parade Cancelled

This year's 4th of July parade has been cancelled. Holding this parade requires many volunteers and interactions with a number of public agencies. Unfortunately, time for coordination has run out. We'll try again next year!

Post Officer Nominations Underway

The annual process to nominate and elect our post officers is underway. Nominations will continue through the month of April, and elections will take place in May. The changes become effective in July. If you are a post member and want to nominate someone, contact Commander Morgan.
You can also self-nominate. Positions open include: Post Commander, Vice Commander, Jr. Vice Commander, Quartermaster, Chaplain,
and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Trustee positions.

Construction Project

Our building is undergoing major restoration and remodeling. When completed, we'll have both the existing main hall, and a new function room for meetings and special events. At the rear of the property there will be a large raised deck for outdoor events in addition to the existing grotto on the north side of the creek. This work is being largely funded by very generous local donations of money, labor, and materials.
